With One Accord (Prepare for Harvest - Part 1)
Prepare for Harvest — Word of the Lord for 2025
A few weeks ago, a powerful encouragement came through a word about watchmen on the wall. Watchmen were appointed just before the harvest to guard the fields at night—because that’s when thieves would try to steal the fruit. This insight carried spiritual significance: we are in a time when the enemy seeks to steal right before a season of reaping.
Soon after, a stranger brought another confirming word—an exhortation to watch in prayer until Pentecost. Pentecost, also called the Feast of Weeks, is when the firstfruits of the wheat harvest were brought to God. It’s the same feast when, after the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, 3,000 people came to faith from Peter’s first sermon (Acts 2). That was the firstfruits of the New Covenant harvest.
We are once again in a window of time where the Spirit is prompting preparation, focus, and spiritual alertness. The harvest is on the horizon.
With One Accord: Unity Prepares Us for the Harvest
“UNITY PREPARES US FOR THE HARVEST.”
Acts 1:12–14 (ESV)
Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey away. And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying... All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer...
The Greek word for “one accord” is homothumadon—a compound meaning "to rush along" and "in unison." It paints a musical picture: many notes, different in tone, played together in harmony under a single conductor. This is the fierce, passionate togetherness that marked the early church.
John 17:22–23 (ESV)
“The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one…”
Psalm 133 (ESV)
Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!... For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.
Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 (ESV)
Two are better than one… a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
According to God’s Word:
A unified body of believers set the stage for the first Pentecost revival.
A unified body carries the anointing of spiritual life.
A unified body cannot be quickly overpowered by the enemy.
Ephesians 4:1–3 (ESV)
Walk in a manner worthy... eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Colossians 2:19 (ESV)
Holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body... grows with a growth that is from God.
Colossians 3:12–14 (ESV)
...above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
Unity is preserved through compassion, humility, grace, forgiveness, and love. These are the spiritual ligaments that protect what God wants to build. The enemy knows this—and he attacks our unity by targeting our relationships.
1 Peter 5:8 (ESV)
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion...
John 10:10 (ESV)
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life...
Recognizing and Resisting the Schemes of the Enemy
Thoughts: The Voice of the Accuser
Revelation 12:10 (ESV)
“…the accuser of our brothers… accuses them day and night before our God.”
The Accuser uses thoughts that sound religious but are rooted in legalism. His goal is condemnation. In contrast, the Gospel offers freedom:
Romans 8:1–4 (ESV)
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus...
The Holy Spirit, called the Advocate, brings conviction—not condemnation. Conviction is specific, meant to lead us into holiness. Condemnation is vague, shame-inducing, and identity-destroying.
Illustration: A moment of conviction may come from a scene in a show or movie that just doesn’t sit right. That’s the Holy Spirit teaching righteousness, helping us discern what honors God.
Ask: Are you walking with the Accuser, or the Advocate?
Watch for:
Critical thoughts toward others
A religious spirit that watches instead of engages
Accusations rather than encouragement
Take every thought captive—especially those aimed at one another.
Heart: Guard Against Jealousy and Bitterness
James 3:13–18 (ESV)
But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts... this is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.
Jealousy and selfish ambition open the door to disorder. But if we’re aware of the enemy’s tactics, we can overcome.
If jealousy creeps in, ask God for a fresh vision of your own calling and identity.
If offense arises, forgive quickly. If needed, go directly to your brother or sister in love.
Matthew 18 (summary) — Go to your brother to be reconciled.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” (Matthew 5:9)
Mouths: Speaking Life Instead of Discord
Proverbs 6:16–19 (ESV)
...one who sows discord among brothers.
Proverbs 18:21 (ESV)
Death and life are in the power of the tongue...
Gossip and slander are forms of false prophecy. They tear down rather than build up.
1 Corinthians 14:3–4 (ESV)
The one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement...
James 3:4–6 (ESV)
...the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness...
Words matter. They either sow discord or bring unity. Let every word be guided by love.
Colossians 3:12–14 (ESV)
...put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
Walking in the Light
If God’s Word has brought conviction today, respond with repentance and hope. Confess your sin, turn from it, and receive His grace. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ.
1 John 1:5–7 (ESV)
...if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another...
The heart posture of Jesus in the upper room—kneeling to wash feet—is the same posture we are invited into today. Humility, purity, and readiness.
Prepare for the harvest. Let His refining fire purify us.
