Baptism is a powerful and prophetic action that declares to the world that "if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The OLD has passed away; behold, the NEW has come." (2 Cor. 5:17)
For those who hear the good news of salvation and place their faith in Jesus, baptism becomes the dividing line between the old life and the new. It is a statement of repentance where we willingly choose to turn away from the old life of sin and embark on the journey of following Jesus. When entered into by faith, baptism is a prophetic action that has the power to wash away old identities, renew old mindsets, and break off the power of past sin patterns.
When baptism occurs within the context of a local church, it also serves as a moment of public identification with the people of God. This means that those in the local church body are now responsible to love, nourish, and assist fellow believers as they enter into the family as brothers and sisters in the Father's house.
